Animal Hospital Beginner Guide

You work the night shift at a veterinary clinic. Some patients are real — some are anomalies in disguise. Here is everything a beginner needs: the core loop, controls, treatment rooms, Sanity management and your first shift step by step.

The Core Loop: Screen → Treat → Survive

  1. Front Desk Screening. Every patient gets one decision: admit them, or slam the red shutter to reject them. If you are unsure, do not admit — check another detection layer first.
  2. Treat Patients. Admitted patients go to the right treatment room for a minigame (DNA, X-Ray, Heart Monitor or Surgery). A red line above a room number means a patient is waiting.
  3. Survive. Random events fire, roaming enemies (including the Skinwalker) move through the clinic, and your Sanity drains. Switch between tasks — screen a patient, progress a treatment, then scan your surroundings and your Sanity bar.

Mobile/tablet is supported with contextual touch buttons. Remember the two most-forgotten keys: mash E to break free when grabbed, and M1 to attack with a weapon.

The 8 Treatment Rooms

Rooms 1–5 (Right Wing)DNA Treatment

Analyze the patient’s DNA for ~10 seconds, then pick the matching medication. Wrong medication kills the patient.

Room 6 (Left Wing)X-Ray

Sequence-replication minigame: watch the prompt sequence, then repeat it in the correct order.

Room 7 (Left Wing)Heart Monitor

Click the white icons and avoid the skull marks to fill the progress bar to 100%.

Room 8 (Left Wing)Surgery

Timed scissors/scalpel minigame. The timer starts the moment you interact. Do not shoot tentacles that appear — they are part of the procedure.

Sanity Management

Sanity is your real health bar. It is not restored through combat — it drains from the atmosphere, anomalies and events, and hitting 0 ends your shift. Add "check Sanity" to your loop: after screening one or two patients or finishing a treatment, glance at the meter. Recovery comes from items at the Supplies Shop, class perks (Doctor, Surgeon, Intern's bonus Sanity) and successful treatments.

Night 1: Step-by-Step Walkthrough

  1. Familiarize yourself with the layout — walk the reception window, the right wing (Rooms 1–5) and the left wing (Rooms 6/7/8).
  2. Hold down the reception desk and receive your first patient. Check the window, photo, CCTV and documents before deciding.
  3. Admit real patients; reject anomalies with the red shutter. When unsure, check another layer instead of guessing.
  4. Escort admitted patients to their treatment room and complete the minigame. Do not rush the DNA medication choice.
  5. Between tasks, scan for roaming enemies and check your Sanity. Conserve weapon ammo for the Skinwalker.
  6. Survive to the end of the shift and collect your Animal Coins and Cash payout.

Common Beginner Mistakes

  • Admitting a patient while unsure — a suspicious patient should never come in.
  • Picking the wrong medication in DNA rooms — it kills the patient.
  • Shooting the tentacles during surgery — they are part of the procedure, not a threat.
  • Ignoring Sanity until it silently hits 0 and ends the shift.
  • Rejecting real patients because of environmental decoys (floor slime, room fires) — those are events, not patient flaws.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the core loop of Animal Hospital?
Screen → Treat → Survive: check each patient at the front desk (admit real ones, reject anomalies with the red shutter), cure admitted patients in the 8 treatment rooms via minigames, and keep your Sanity above 0 while dealing with roaming enemies and random events.
What happens when my Sanity hits zero?
Your shift ends. Sanity is the hidden failure condition — it is drained by the horror atmosphere, anomalies and events, and it is restored through items, class perks and successful treatments. Keep it above 0 at all times.
Should I play solo or co-op?
Both work. Co-op (up to 30 players) becomes important from Shift 7 onward, when coordination and task division matter. Solo is fine for learning the loop and early shifts.
